Services

Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of an annual physical examination. Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems. We offer a wide range of veterinary services to keep your companions feeling their best:

Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services:  Our hospital is equipped to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pets' complete health care needs.

Surgical Services:  Our state-of-the-art surgical suite provides for the performance of a wide variety of surgical procedures.  We do hundreds of surgeries yearly including but not limited to: spaying, neutering, lump removals, abdominal exploratories, feeding tube placements and skin wound repair.  We offer numerous eye surgeries such as entropion repair (rolled in eyelids), cherry eye repair and eyelid lump removals.  We do extra capsular repair of torn ACL ligaments of the knee as well as providing a specialist who visits our clinic to perform TPLO surgeries of the knee.  We do stomach and intestinal surgeries, spleen removals, bladder surgery to remove stones and a wide variety of emergency surgeries such as repairing chest wounds and placing chest drains, replacing dislocated hips and bone fracture stabilization.

Anesthesia:  Before each surgery we perform a risk assessment for each pet based on species, age, medical conditions and procedure to be performed.  We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide an extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high-risk patients. Using the most modern equipment, the patient's vital signs are monitored during all anesthetic procedures by experienced and well trained staff members.

Internal medicine consults: We offer referrals to internal medicine specialists who performs ultrasounds, endoscopic procedures, MRI's, CT scans, cancer radiation and chemotherapy etc.  This helps us with the diagnosis and treatment of more complicated cases.

Radiology Services:  Our on-site, modern digital x-ray equipment provides high quality radiographs to aid in the quick diagnosis of many disorders.  We have the option to send the  x-ray images electronically to a board certified veterinary radiologist for rapid specialized reports, often getting reports within a few hours.

Electrocardiography Services:  We provide ECG services on-site as well as consultations with cardiology specialists.

Dentistry:  Our dental services start with a whole mouth assessment under anesthetic, evaluating each tooth individually and performing digital dental X-rays to evaluate bone, crowns, tooth roots and many other potential defects.  We perform dental nerve blocks before oral surgery to minimize post op discomfort and reduce the need for excessive anesthetic agents.  We perform tooth extractions using flap techniques that stitch the gums closed to increase healing and reduce pain and infection.  We clean and polish all teeth and hand scale under the gingiva.  We provide biopsy of oral tumors and some tumor removal surgeries.

Laboratory:  Our in-house laboratory facilities provide for serum chemistry, hematology, serology and urinalysis as well as in-house urine culture incubators. We also utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for specialized diagnostics and consultations.

Permanent identification: We offer microchip identification.

Pharmacy:  We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. We also carry a full line of prescription diets.

Cremation: Offering Private and Communal Cremation.  View the wide selection of memorial products to remember your faithful companion at Gateway Pet Memorial

Vaccinations and Annual Health Exams:  Each year we re-evaluate the individual risks of each dog and cat.  We base our vaccination recommendations on these individual risks.  Many vaccines are now able to be given every 3 years once the puppy/kitten and first year shots have been done.  We still strongly recommend an annual examination even though there may be some years pets don't require any needles.  We approach vaccines with the idea that we want to protect against diseases that a pet may be at risk but not to over vaccinate when risk of disease is extremely low.

Individualized Flea Control Programs:  We develop programs for the specific needs of your pet and your own particular environmental situation. We will review with you the best ways to control fleas in your house, in your yard and on your pet.

Dietary Counseling:  We will provide guidance regarding your pet's nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance.

Emergency Care:  Please call our main telephone number for instructions for after-hour emergencies.  Emergency care is available 24/7.      (705) 738-5149
